Semanario estadounidense de opinión, la más antigua publicación periódica ininterrumpida de ese país.

Fundado en 1865 por Frederick Law Olmsted y Edwin L. Godkin (n. 1831–m. 1902), el New York Evening Post adquirió en 1881 este medio reformista y lo convirtió en un suplemento semanal del periódico, formato que mantuvo hasta 1914. En el período en que Oswald Garrison Villard (n. 1872–m. 1949) fue su dueño y director (1918–1934), la línea editorial de la publicación se desplazó notoriamente hacia una política de izquierda, y allí ha permanecido bajo los ulteriores propietarios y directores. The Nation se destacó en su momento por su oposición declarada a la acción del senador Joseph McCarthy y a la participación estadounidense en la guerra de Vietnam. Es una de las revistas intelectuales de mayor circulación en EE.UU.
